Spearheads
We believe that international students should be treated with the same care as the RUG has for its Dutch students. For example, this year we have fought for a bigger budget for ESN, because their budget was insufficient to give all international students a proper introduction. Next year we will try to do even more for the international students:
- Employ international student advisors so that foreign students can be supported properly in both practical and educational matters.
- All information, from cafeteria prices to e-mails, should be available in English.

Furthermore, Lijst Calimero distinguishes itself from the other parties by their strong focus on education. Students wil be paying for the national budget deficit and Calimero cannot do anything to change this. We do believe, however, that the RUG should do whatever it takes to prevent students from having an unnecessary delay concerning their studies. We also believe that fees of sometimes more than 10.000 euros for a second Master course are ridiculous.
- Extra resits for students who need to obtain 15 EC or less to start their Master course.
- More starting points a year for Master courses to prevent students from having to wait around.
- Calimero wants more reasonable fees for second Master courses.
- Offer courses that are known to be stumbling blocks twice a year with the help of pre-recorded lectures.
Besides increasing costs, cuts by the national government are also a threat to our education level and to the value of your degree. Since the University receives money for every degree that is obtained by a student, the University is thus stimulated to rush everyone through their course. Calimero is very concerned about the potential consequences this has for the value of the RUG degree. We have several spearheads concerning education:
- Judge lecturers by the quality of their teaching.
- Academic testing: less facts, more focus on in depth understanding, more than merely multiple choice questions.
- Guaranteed feedback on essays.
- Leading academic literature for all courses.
- Better access to leading foreign universities.
Finally, Calimero is a proponent of improving the organisation of university matters and improving its facilities:
- Uniform rules and deadlines for enrollment in courses and exams.
- Better information on the different possiblities for Master courses and minors.
- Interaction during lectures by using electronic voting devices and text messaging.
- Offer digital readers.
- No lectures and exams during the weekends.
