Ceramic Coffee Cups

This morning during the University Council meeting we asked the Board of the University whether it would be possible to have ceramic cups in the university restaurants. It’s nicer to drink from ceramic cups and its also better for the environment! The Board of the University will now investigate why there are only paper cups at the moment.

Here’s what we said:

Even though the outsourcing of the Food&Drinks services has already been discussed in the University Council, we would like to take the opportunity to mention a current issue. If you buy a soup in one of the university restaurants, you can choose between eating your soup there from a ceramic bowl, or choose the takeaway option of a paper bowl. If you buy a coffee, however, you do not have this choice. Coffee can only be purchased in paper cups. From students, we heard that they would appreciate the option to buy coffee in ceramic cups, as coffee and tea from an actual cup does taste a lot nicer than from a paper cup. At the same time, it would also make the restaurants more sustainable.

In the process of outsourcing the Food&Drinks services ideas like this one can of course be implemented. Our question, however, is to already make this change in the meanwhile, until the Food&Drinks services are actually outsourced. Therefore, our question, would it be an option to have paper cups and ceramic cups in the university restaurants and can the CvB agree to look into the feasibility of this plan?
