At January 1, 2017, the Wet Versterking Bestuurskracht (\u201cEnhanced Governance Powers\u201d) has come into force. This law makes it possible for universities to allow students, who are doing a board year, not to pay any tuition fee whilst they can still apply for a loan and a student public transport card at DUO. Contrary to many other Dutch universities, the University of Groningen has decided to implement this law. Obviously, students who make use of this regulation are not able to take any courses or write any exams. Also, note that this regulation only holds for students who would otherwise pay statutory tuition fees (rather than the higher university tuition fee).<\/p>\n
The legal department of the University of Groningen is working on the implementation of the new law. The proposal will be discussed when the graduation fund will be discussed in the University Council.<\/p>\n
