The Board of Directors has decided to pay the board grants in advance this year, instead of only after the board year has been completed. They’ve just announced their decision during the university council meeting.<\/p>\n
The UG initially wanted to only pay out afterwards. In case board members quit during the year, they have to pay back a part of their grant. It turned out to be very difficult for the UG to get the excess money back from students.<\/p>\n
ESN, ACLO, USVA and KEI felt this change might cause problems. They fear that current board members may get into financial difficulties due to the postponed payout. Furthermore, they are afraid students may not choose to do a board year anymore due to this change. Also, board members (almost) can’t compensate the loss in finances by working, as they’re already busy with their regular tasks.<\/p>\n
The UG still thinks that paying out afterwards is better. However, she recognizes that current board members couldn’t prepare for this change. After consulting CUOS, the UG decided to postpone the change for one year. From next year onwards, they still plan to only pay out afterwards.<\/p>\n
Lijst Calimero is glad that the UG listened to the student facilities and decided to pay the board grants in advance to current board members. For the future, we want the UG to either continue to pay the grants up front or switch to a system where the grants are payed out in a number of installments. This last system would mitigate the worries of the UG, but still give board members the much needed financial support during the year.<\/p>\n

Het College van Bestuur heeft besloten om de bestuursbeurzen over dit jaar weer vooraf uit te betalen, in plaats van all\u00e9\u00e9n achteraf. Dit heeft ze zojuist meegedeeld in de universiteitsraadvergadering.<\/p>
Tijdelijk teruggedraaid<\/h2>
De RUG wilde de beurzen in eerste instantie alleen nog maar achteraf uitkeren. Als bestuurders halverwege het jaar stoppen, moeten ze een deel van het beurs terugbetalen. Het bleek echter erg lastig voor de RUG om het teveel betaalde geld weer terug te krijgen.<\/p>
ESN, ACLO, USVA en KEI voorzagen door deze wijziging echter problemen. Zij vrezen dat de huidige studentbestuurders in financi\u00eble problemen komen en dat studenten in de toekomst niet meer kiezen voor het vervullen van een bestuursfunctie door de verplaatsing van de uitbetaling. Bovendien kunnen bestuurders niet of nauwelijks bijverdienen omdat ze veel tijd kwijt zijn aan hun reguliere taken.<\/p>
De RUG blijft van mening blijft dat uitbetaling achteraf gewenst is. Ze ziet echter ook dat bestuurders zich niet hebben kunnen voorbereiden op deze verandering. Daarom is besloten om de wijziging een jaar op te schorten en komend jaar alsnog uitsluitend achteraf uit te betalen.<\/p>
Structurele oplossing nodig<\/h2>
Lijst Calimero is blij dat de RUG heeft geluisterd naar de studentenvoorzieningen en heeft besloten dit jaar de beurzen alsnog vooraf uit te betalen. We willen voor de komende jaren \u00f3f de uitbetaling vooraf handhaven \u00f3f naar een systeem gaan waarin periodiek een deel van de beurs wordt uitbetaald. Deze laatste opzet komt tegemoet aan de zorgen van de RUG, maar biedt ook bestuurders gedurende het jaar de broodnodige financi\u00eble ondersteuning.<\/p>
