“University is the best time of your life”, you undoubtedly have been told this many times as well. I cannot tell whether this is true yet, but at least you will have to agree that Groningen offers everything you need to make a good go of it. I will briefly introduce myself: My name is Tessa van de Werve, and I study Econometrics and Operations Research. To me, Groningen distinguishes itself from other cities with its active student life, which I have been enjoying for the past few years. I joined Albertus Magnus, and I have been the chairperson of study association VESTING. After the exam period, I will go to Vietnam for five weeks with Risk International Financial Program. Next academic year, I hope to face another challenge: representing your interests in the University Council.
The student city of Groningen is known for the many opportunities it offers to develop yourself, both within your studies as well as non-academically. At many faculties, study associations successfully took the initiative to bridge the gap between the study program and the career afterwards. Within the RUG itself, however, there is room for improvement. I will devote my best efforts to introduce the practical aspects of the study within the programme. For example, it should be possible to combine your thesis with an internship, or to take (elective) courses that focus on relevant real-world matters. Quality of education also means preparing students for their future.
Make your voice heard and vote during the university elections between Wednesday May 18 and Tuesday May 24. Quality is a choice. Make yours, choose Lijst Calimero.
